Guidelines
The
Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame endeavors to honor the finest
in the history of sports. An eleven member Board of Selectors
will select the inductees. The Board of Selectors shall
consist of media representatives, sports information directors
and a selected number of member-at-large representatives.
The Board of Selectors will meet annually to induct new
members into the Hall of Fame. No more than ten persons
will be inducted. Every candidate will be carefully scrutinized
and must receive a majority vote before he or she can be
selected for the Hall of Fame. Each nominee’s record
must be exemplary in terms of sportsmanship and citizenship.
Any fan may nominate a person who has been connected with
sports in any capacity simply by completing the official
nominating form. The only restriction is that a player must
have been retired for at least five years before he/she
can be considered.
For a non-player, there is no mandatory retirement period,
but a coach must be retired before he/she may be considered.
Every nomination received will be processed and forwarded
to the Board of Selectors. The African American Museum has
no say whatsoever as to who is or is not inducted into the
Hall of Fame. The only function of the Museum staff is to
process nominations as they arrive and to coordinate the
selection meeting.
All proceeds from the Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame
Luncheon benefit the African American Museum. For more information,
